Target Donates $500,000 and More than One Million Meals to Earthquake Victims in Haiti

MINNEAPOLIS (Jan. 14, 2010) —In response to the 7.0-magnitude earthquake that struck Haiti on Tuesday afternoon and devastated Port-au-Prince, the nation’s capitol, Target announced today that it will donate $500,000 to support Haitian families impacted by the disaster. The donation will be made to the American Red Cross, which is providing desperately needed supplies and disaster-management services to the area through its International Response Fund.

 

In addition, Target Volunteers are working in partnership with students from The Fair School in Minneapolis and ImpactLives, a local non-profit organization, to prepare more than one million meals to send to Haitian earthquake victims. “At Target, we are committed to helping families and communities in need,” said Laysha Ward, president of Community Relations at Target. “We extend our thoughts of comfort and hope to all those affected by this disaster. Moving forward, we will continue to monitor the situation and work with our non-profit partners to assist with disaster-relief efforts in the region.”

 

Target guests and team members are encouraged to visit their local American Red Cross Web site <http://www.redcross.org/> to learn more about how they can help victims of the earthquake. The U.S. State Department and the American Red Cross are also encouraging members of the public to make a $10 donation to American Red Cross relief efforts by texting “Haiti” to 90999.
