Hoops for Hunger: A Community Initiative

The Minnesota Lynx and Impact Lives have partnered to create “Hoops for Hunger”

On August 28th prior to the Minnesota Lynx versus Sacramento Monarchs game, and again on September 5, before the Seattle Storm game, we’ll be packing 300,000 meals to feed starving children and adults in the US and around the world.

ImpactLives and the Minnesota Lynx have formed a partnership with local businesses to promote our first “Hoops for Hunger” campaign. This is a community initiative, calling on the efforts of people from around MN to unite together to make an impact in the world. This initiative strives to promote volunteerism and awareness of world hunger while thousands of local volunteers will be given the opportunity to pack as many as 300,000 meals. These meals will be distributed to hungry children & adults both in the US and around the world.

Hunger Facts

• The food crisis has pushed the number of hungry people in the world to over 1 Billion!
• 25,000 people die each day because of lack of food. Every 3.6 seconds someone dies of hunger.
  
• Malnutrition & hunger are the number one risk to health worldwide as almost 1 in 7 people do not get enough food.
  
• You can combine the risk of malaria, AIDS & tuberculosis, and hunger is still higher!
  
• Nearly 1 in 4 people (1.3 billion) live on less than $1.00/day (UNICEF)
  

Your Involvement

For every box of food that you purchase, you will receive 2 tickets to a MN Lynx game. The premium seating tickets can be used on one the following 7:00 pm games: June 12th, June 23rd, July 7th, Aug 28th, or Sep 5th. You will also be able to use the stub of your ticket to come back to the Target Center on Aug 28th and/or Sept 5th during a shift from 1:00pm until 5:30pm to help pack food. Our goal is to pack 150,000 meals during these shifts (300,000 meals total)!

One box of food costs $54 and contains 216 meals and will feed a family of 6 for 1 month!

This is a great opportunity for individuals, families, businesses, churches and organizations to volunteer together to feed those in poverty and create a stronger community.
